Serve on the 2017–2018 Publishing Professional Council

TESOL International Association is seeking individuals to serve on the Publishing Professional Council (PPC). These are one-year appointments, beginning on 1 November 2017, with the option to renew for another year at the end of the appointment. The maximum continuous service period on the PPC is three years. To be eligible, you must be a member of TESOL International Association in good standing.

About the Publishing Professional Council

The Publishing Professional Council (PPC) oversees the development of ELT publications and related multi-platform products that support TESOL’s mission and the needs of its members. The PPC identifies publishing opportunities that represent the best current thought, research, and educational practice in English language instruction and is aligned with TESOL International Associations’ Strategic Plan.

Expertise and Experience

The PPC seeks the following attributes, knowledge, and/or skills:
  • K–12 classroom experience
  • Good-to-excellent knowledge of trends in teaching technology in the TESOL profession
  • Awareness and interest in social justice and refugee issues
  • Experience in either reviewing or writing professional development books
  • Familiarity with TESOL Press’s current catalog of products
  • Ability to critically read and comment on manuscripts and proposals
  • Ability to discern appropriate book projects
  • Ability and desire to develop new book ideas
  • Enjoy working in a team environment


Council members are expected to dedicate approximately 6+ hours per month to the work of the Council. The number of hours may be more or less depending on the number of books and their varying stages of development. 

Council members are expected to
  • attend the annual TESOL Convention if at all possible;
  • actively participate in the TESOL Leadership Briefing and the Council team meeting one day before the Convention;
  • serve as a panelist at the Council’s session, “I Want to Write a Book for TESOL Press,” at the TESOL Convention;
  • participate in quarterly conference calls;
  • review unsolicited manuscripts, co-publication requests, or queries in a timely manner;
  • respond to queries from authors, the PPC Chair, and the Director of Publishing and Product
  • Development in a timely manner;
  • write Publication Inquiries to potential authors for book ideas developed by the PPC;
  • identify authors and editors for projects;
