TESOL International Association Strategic Plan

The new Strategic Plan was approved the Board of Directors in March 2018, and ​went into effect on 1 November 2018. The first strategy under each outcome will be prioritized in FY 2019.

Outcome 1: Global Presence and Connectivity

TESOL has increased its global presence and its connectivity among members, partners, and other stakeholders.​

  • Strategy 1 - Identify and pursue opportunities to increase and diversify the Association’s membership globally.

  • Strategy 2 - Strengthen and reinvigorate connections and partnerships in the global TESOL community through the Affiliate Network and other organizations. 

  • Strategy 3 - Increase and diversify engagement with and among TESOL members and other English language teaching professionals from diverse backgrounds.

    Outcome 2: Knowledge and Expertise

    TESOL has led the development and delivery of English language teaching expertise, research, and information that address current and emerging trends in the profession.

    • Strategy 1 - Increase understanding of TESOL professionals’ learning interests and needs.

    • ​Strategy 2 - Investigate and develop innovative models for professional development for TESOL professionals.

    • Strategy 3 -  Disseminate and leverage research to support and transform practice, programs, and policy in English language teaching. 

      Outcome 3: Voice and Advocacy

      TESOL has become the leading advocate for English language teaching professionals and learners worldwide.

        • Strategy 1 - Advocate for sound policies and practices for English language teaching globally.

        • Strategy 2 - Empower TESOL professionals to be effective advocates for their students, their programs, themselves, and for one another.

        • Strategy 3 - Uphold excellence for the profession through the dissemination of guidelines, standards, and context-appropriate practices.
