TESOL is recruiting volunteers for our Professional Councils, Interest Sections, and Convention Program Strand Coordinators. The application deadline is 14 January 2026. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and actively encourage applicants from ethnically diverse communities.

Professional Councils

Take the next step in building your leadership experience and serve on one of the TESOL Professional Councils. Professional councils provide professional expertise to help advance the association's strategic objectives and activities.

To apply, you must be a TESOL member for at least 3 years and have at least 1-2 years of volunteer experience with TESOL International Association (i.e., having served with interest sections, task forces, or other TESOL entities).

Below are the current volunteer opportunities with TESOL Professional Councils.

The Affiliate Network Professional Council (ANPC) is seeking new members. Appointments will be made for one year beginning in April 2026.

About the Affiliate Network Professional Council

The ANPC supports TESOL International Association by helping to foster a strong and robust affiliate network.

Experience Sought

  • Current and/or past members who have also served in leadership roles with a TESOL Affiliate, e.g., board member, affiliate liaison.
  • Conference presenter with TESOL and/or TESOL affiliates.
  • Experience with affiliate organizations and management.

Skills Needed

  • Strong communication skills, through a variety of modalities, for connection and coordination with leaders of the TESOL Affiliate Network.
  • Organizational analysis and development within the ELT profession across a variety of contexts and countries.

Commitment

The time commitment is roughly 8-10 hours a month. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Monthly ANPC meetings.
  • Be active on the council Microsoft Teams group.
  • Biannual Affiliate Newsletter publications.
  • Assist with procedural elements to develop, maintain, and grow the affiliate network.
  • Review new affiliate applications and advise TESOL’s executive committee.
  • Convene the annual Affiliate Assembly and the Affiliate Colloquium.
  • Review and select “best of affiliate” sessions and “affiliate leader” workshops for the annual convention.
  • Support collegial engagement with affiliate leaders.
  • Members serve a one-year term, renewable up to three years.

The Awards Professional Council (APC) is seeking new members. Appointments will be made for one year beginning in April 2026.

The APC supports TESOL International Association by recognizing outstanding accomplishments of individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the TESOL field and offering opportunities for educators to participate in the association’s programs.

Commitment

The time commitment is roughly 8-10 hours a month, with potential increases during peak periods, such as the award review and selection cycles. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Participate in 2-4 online meetings per year.

  • Respond to emails in a timely manner.
  • Review award applications based on established criteria.
  • Collaborate with other council members and stakeholders to ensure alignment with TESOL’s strategic goals.
  • Members serve a one-year term, renewable up to three years.

The Conferences Professional Council (CPC) is seeking new members. Appointments will be made for two years beginning in April 2026.

About the Conferences Professional Council

The CPC shall ensure that the content and program of TESOL International Association regional conferences and the Annual Convention are focused on current issues that impact the field of English language teaching, are responsive to the diverse needs of members and the TESOL field, and are aligned with the strategic direction of the association. The Council achieves this purpose by collaborating with staff and the Board of Directors in setting the overall goals for each regional conference and the Annual Convention, and providing advice and guidance as needed.

Experience Sought

In addition to having proven experience organizing conventions (e.g., for TESOL affiliates or other ELTAs), ideal CPC members will have had extensive experience working with TESOL’s interest sections (or comparable groups), reviewing proposals for the TESOL Convention (or similar conventions), and/or serving as TESOL’s convention program strand coordinators.

  • Participate in 10-12 conference calls per year.

  • Members serve a two-year term, renewable once.

The Justice & Equity Professional Council (JEPC) is seeking new members. Appointments will be made for one year beginning in April 2026.

The JEPC assists TESOL International Association in advancing the Association’s commitment to social justice and diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA) so that member needs are met. 

Strong candidates will show a clear understanding of JEPC's mission and goals with a compelling vision for contribution and specific plans for involvement.

Experience Sought

The JEPC seeks applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Expertise in DEIA and social justice principles across various contexts.
  • Track record of successful DEIA and social justice initiatives.
  • Experience leading professional development programs focused on DEIA and social justice.
  • Ability to implement effective DEIA programs and measure their impact.
  • Examples of advancing equity policies within TESOL (or related) field.

Skills Needed

  • Comprehensive understanding of DEIA and social justice principles with demonstrated ability to apply them effectively in TESOL contexts.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to facilitate constructive dialogue on sensitive topics among diverse stakeholders.

Commitment

The role requires 8–10 hours per month, apart from attending quarterly meetings (approximately 90 minutes each). Additional responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate and recommend policies and practices through a DEIA lens.
  • Develop and track metrics to measure progress toward DEIA goals.
  • Design and deliver educational programs to build members' DEIA expertise.
  • Foster community engagement and participation in DEIA initiatives.

The Membership Professional Council (MPC) is seeking new members. Appointments will be made for one year beginning in April 2026.

The Professional Development Professional Council (PDPC) is seeking new members. Appointments will be made for one year beginning in April 2026.

The Research Professional Council (RPC) is seeking new members. Appointments will be made for one year beginning in April 2026.

About the Research Professional Council

The RPC informs, supports, and guides TESOL International Association’s research initiatives and priorities in alignment with its strategic direction.

Experience Sought

  • Experience in English language teaching and practitioner and/or classroom-based research.
  • Experience of working with language teachers in participatory and/or collaborative research.
  • Experience of participating in and/or facilitating language teacher communities of practice.
  • A university affiliation is not required.

Skills Needed

  • Understanding of methodologies, theories, and topics related to classroom-based research in language education.

Commitment

The time commitment is roughly 8-10 hours a month, apart from attending RPC Quarterly Meetings (approximately 90 minutes). Additional responsibilities include:

  • Active participation in at least one of the RPC’s working groups.
  • Assisting TESOL members to report their research engagements in text-based or multimodal formats.
  • Reviewing TESOL Award for Excellence in Research applications.
  • Organizing, facilitating, or otherwise supporting RPC events including colloquia, forums, or workshops during the in-person or virtual annual conventions.
  • Surveying and identifying TESOL members’ research priorities and internal reporting.
  • Be active on council Microsoft Teams group.
  • Members serve a one-year term, renewable up to three years.

Interest Sections

Volunteer with TESOL and start building your leadership skills! Serve as a leader of one of TESOL’s Interest Sections (ISs) and collaborate with colleagues on shared interests and activities. ISs build community around current practice and research in areas of English language teaching and learning. ISs work on communications, member engagement, and leadership development.

To apply, you must be a current TESOL member. Most positions are for a 1-2 years beginning in April 2026 and may be renewed annually. New volunteers are welcome to apply, and no previous experience is required. Commitment varies per interest section, but applicants should anticipate communicating regularly with other leaders and attending online meetings as needed.  

Below are the current volunteer opportunities with TESOL ISs.

Chair-Elect

  • In the temporary absence of the Chair, preside at business meetings of the AEIS and its Steering Committee.
  • Organize the AEIS academic session at the annual TESOL convention.
  • Assist the Chair and Assistant Chair in planning AEIS Convention activities.
  • Evaluate the AEIS program offered at the annual TESOL convention and submit a report to the Steering Committee within 60 days after the convention.
  • Assume the duties of the Chair should the Chair be unable to serve the remainder of the term.
  • Assist and advise the Chair in their duties. Work closely with the Chair in preparation for the following year's responsibilities.
  • Attend all scheduled IS meetings.

Community Manager

Maintain the AEIS community in myTESOL by posting information relevant to AEIS members, in consultation with the steering committee.

  • Post at least once a week on the community's home page.
  • Post at least twice a month on the community discussion page.
  • Monitor the community and promptly respond to members' questions/posts.
  • Post the community's purpose and mission quarterly to remind members of the focus and orient new members.
  • Work with community members and, if necessary, TESOL staff to resolve any personal conflicts that may arise.
  • Post important community updates to the general home page in myTESOL.
  • Create community events.
  • Upload resources to the community's library.
  • Direct community users to contact TESOL for assistance with myTESOL.

Member-at-Large

The role of Member-at-Large is to support, promote, and lead the Intercultural Communication Interest Section (AEIS) activities to sustain AEIS' mission, goals, and efforts. Attend and contribute to AEIS leadership meetings.

Chair-Elect

This position is a three-year commitment. In the first year, the Chair-Elect shadows the Chair and helps coordinate parts of the convention program (e.g., the academic session/intersection sessions). The Chair-Elect will meet with the leadership team during the summer (via Zoom) to plan for the activities of the coming year. In the second year, the Chair-Elect assumes leadership of the IS. In the third year, as past-chair, this person remains an active part of the ALIS leadership team. PhD candidates in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related fields, with university teaching or TESOL leadership experience, are preferred.

Member-at-Large

The Member-at-Large should be an active member of TESOL and the Applied Linguistics IS. The member-at-Large supports the interest section's planning and networking activities throughout the year and, when possible, attends the open meeting at the annual convention. 

Chair-Elect

The Chair-Elect serves one year in a supporting and preparatory role before assuming leadership of B-MEIS the following year. The Chair-Elect works closely with the current Chair, contributes to planning for the annual convention, and supports ongoing B-MEIS operations.

Key Responsibilities are:

  • Shadow and support the Chair throughout the year to learn B-MEIS leadership responsibilities.
  • Assist in planning convention activities, including the academic session and other IS-sponsored events.
  • Attend B-MEIS meetings, the Open Business Meeting, and the B-MEIS Leaders' Planning Meeting.
  • Maintain active communication with B-MEIS leadership and members, and stay informed about TESOL-wide updates.
  • Promote member engagement and help identify emerging leaders within B-MEIS.
  • Ensure minutes are taken at the annual Open Business Meeting.
  • Collaborate with the Chair and Board liaison on B-MEIS needs, policies, and recommendations for the Board.

Community Managers (two positions available)

The Community Manager supports communication, engagement, and visibility for B-MEIS. This leader maintains B-MEIS's online presence—both on myTESOL and on external social media platforms—and helps ensure that members stay informed and connected throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities are:

  • Oversee the B-MEIS community in myTESOL.
    • Post at least once a week on the community's home page.
    • Post at least twice a month on the community discussion page.
    • Monitor the community and promptly respond to members' questions/posts.
    • Post the community's purpose and mission quarterly to remind members of the focus and orient new members.
    • Work with community members and, if necessary, TESOL staff to resolve any personal conflicts that may arise.
    • Post important community updates to the general home page in myTESOL.
    • Create community events.
    • Upload resources to the community's library.
    • Direct community users to contact TESOL for assistance with myTESOL.
  • Manage B-MEIS social media outlets (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn), including posting content, promoting IS activities, and amplifying member achievements.
  • Share relevant TESOL news, events, and opportunities with B-MEIS members through the community platform and social channels.
  • Collaborate with the Chair, Chair-Elect, Newsletter Editor, and Steering Committee to support communication goals and promote IS initiatives, including webinars, convention sessions, and calls for proposals.
  • Help maintain the B-MEIS digital archive of shared documents, announcements, and resources when applicable.
  • Attend relevant orientation sessions (e.g., TESOL Community Managers Orientation and monthly meetings) and follow TESOL community engagement expectations.
  • Ensure B-MEIS communications align with TESOL's mission, values, and strategic plan.

Chair-Elect 

The Chair-Elect serves a three-year leadership term, rotating through the roles of Chair-Elect, Chair, and Past Chair. In the first year, the Chair-Elect supports the Chair and leads the organization of proposals for CALL-IS academic and intersection sessions at the TESOL Convention, including partnerships in which CALL-IS is a primary or secondary sponsor. They also contribute to monthly online activities, leadership meetings, and CALL-IS events at the convention. Beyond event coordination, the Chair-Elect promotes CALL-IS to support recruitment and advocates for the community's interests. This role is ideal for someone organized, collaborative, and passionate about advancing technology in language education.

English for Occupational Purposes Representative

  • Establish regular online exchanges with IS members by initiating/organizing activities such as e-list discussions, and/or taking any other steps necessary to foster the sharing of ideas and expertise in the context of English for Occupational Purposes, in accordance with the IS's primary goals and activities. Activities may include hosting a webinar or posting an interesting article on myTESOL.
  • Post at least biannual reports on the ESP-IS e-list or community website, from English for Occupational Purposes, that may include the latest developments, issues, news, etc., in ESP.

English for Academic Purposes Representative

  • Establish regular online exchanges with IS members by initiating/organizing activities such as e-list discussions, and/or taking any other steps necessary to foster the sharing of ideas and expertise in the context of English for Academic Purposes, in accordance with the IS's primary goals and activities. Activities may include hosting a webinar or posting an interesting article on myTESOL.
  • Post at least biannual reports on the ESP-IS e-list or community website, from English for Academic Purposes that may include the latest developments, issues, news, etc., in ESP.

Chair-Elect

Serve as a member of the HEIS Steering Committee. Works with the Chairperson to achieve the general shared responsibilities of the IS: 

  • Create themes for the newsletter based on the intersection and academic panels.
  • Solicit articles for the HEIS newsletter.
  • Solicit and organize webinars and coffee talks meetings each term with the events manager.
  • Plan section activities and ensure HEIS representation at all TESOL  Interest Section events during the TESOL annual convention.
  • Keep the Steering Committee informed of activities through timely emails, texts, or online meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities of the HEIS Chair-Elect include:

  • In the temporary absence of the Chair, preside at HEIS and its Steering Committee business meetings. 
  • Prepare an updated spreadsheet listing the names, email addresses, mobile phone numbers, professional positions, and institutional affiliations of the HEIS Steering Committee and Nominating Committee.
  • Take notes at HEIS meetings and provide a copy to the Steering Committee within 30 days.
  • Prepare the primary intersection session panel and submit all relevant data to the TESOL platforms.
  • Keep the Chair and Associate Chair informed of activities via email, text, or online meetings, including timely and effective responses to emails and CCing appropriate members of the Steering Committee.
  • Generally, assist the Chair in carrying out their responsibilities and perform other duties assigned by the Chair.

Community Manager

The Steering Committee appoints the HEIS Community Manager for a 1-year term, with the option to reappoint for a second year. The term of office shall be from the close of the TESOL Convention following appointment until the close of the TESOL annual convention in the year of retirement.

Duties and responsibilities of the HEIS Community Manager include:

  • Updates leadership positions and maintains HEIS permanent records and archives on myTESOL.
  • Manages the HEIS Community on myTESOL and social media.
    • Post at least once a week on the community's home page.
    • Post at least twice a month on the community discussion page.
    • Monitor the community and promptly respond to members' questions/posts.
    • Post the community's purpose and mission quarterly to remind members of the focus and orient new members.
    • Work with community members and, if necessary, TESOL staff to resolve any personal conflicts that may arise.
    • Post important community updates to the general home page in myTESOL.
    • Create community events.
    • Upload resources to the community's library.
    • Direct community users to contact TESOL for assistance with myTESOL.
  • Maintains membership lists and tracks membership. Creates a report on HEIS membership and member interaction for the annual convention HEIS business meeting. 
  • Coordinate with the HEIS Editor and the HEIS Events Manager to organize town halls on newsletter topics one month after publication. 
  • Post a discussion prompt on a topic of interest, especially after 30 days without a post in the HEIS Community on myTESOL.

Events Manager

The Steering Committee appoints the Events Manager for a 1-year term, with the option to reappoint for a second year. The term of office shall be from the close of the TESOL annual convention following appointment until the close of the TESOL annual convention in the year of retirement.

Duties and responsibilities of the HEIS Events Manager include:

  • Administrates and facilitates HEIS events, including webinars, town hall meetings, coffee chats, Steering Committee Meetings, and the Annual Business Meeting.
  • Coordinates with the Chair, Chair-Elect, Associate Chair, and Community Manager regularly in timely communication.
  • Communicates with HEIS event speakers and presenters through email exchanges or online meetings via Zoom or other platforms.
  • Coordinates the publication of planned events with the HEIS Community Manager.
  • Coordinates with the HEIS Editor and the HEIS Community Manager to organize town halls on newsletter topics for one month after publication. 
  • Make an annual report to the Steering Committee.

Newsletter Editor

The Newsletter Editor will prepare and publish 2-4 newsletters per year for InterCom, the Intercultural Communication Interest Section's newsletter. The Editor is part of the leadership team and should be active in monthly meetings and/or work with the interest section chairs. 

Member-at-Large

ICIS is seeking three members-at-large to serve on the leadership team. They are responsible for attending monthly meetings, organizing, and leading at least one coffee hour (informal webinar) per year. The commitment is for one term, with the option to continue. In addition, they support the Chair(s) and Chair(s)-Elect with ICIS offerings. 

Member-at-Large

  • Send out an annual survey to ITA-IS members to gauge topics and recommended speakers for webinars held throughout the year.
  • Organize 2-3 webinars per year.
  • Manage the ITA-IS YouTube account by posting previously recorded webinars and promoting them on the ITA-IS listserv.
  • Coordinate webinars using TESOL's Zoom account or another institution's account.
  • Promote ITA professional events and share with ITA-IS members through various communication channels (i.e., ITA-IS listserv)
  • Attend the online TESOL leadership meetings for community event organizers.

Community Events Co-Organizer

Plan the ITA-IS networking dinner after the ITA-IS annual business meeting at the TESOL Convention (TESOL convention attendance required).

Newsletter Co-Editor

  • Direct the publication of the ITA-IS newsletter.
  • Liaison with editors of TESOL publications, affiliate newsletters, and other IS newsletters.
  • Post calls for submissions on the ITA-IS listserv.
  • Accept, edit, and send revisions to submitters.
  • Confirm formatting requirements for all accepted submissions.
  • Resize submitted photos.
  • Attend the online TESOL leadership meeting for newsletter Editors.

Community Manager

Manages the ITA-IS Community on myTESOL.

  • Post at least once a week on the community's home page.
  • Post at least twice a month on the community discussion page.
  • Monitor the community and promptly respond to members' questions/posts.
  • Post the community's purpose and mission quarterly to remind members of the focus and orient new members.
  • Work with community members and, if necessary, TESOL staff to resolve any personal conflicts that may arise.
  • Post important community updates to the general Home page in myTESOL.
  • Create community events.
  • Upload resources to the community's library.
  • Direct community users to contact TESOL for assistance with myTESOL.

Chair

  • Oversee the MWIS leadership and activities.
  • Oversee the MWIS TESOL Convention sessions.
  • Plan the interest section activities during TESOL Convention.
  • Conduct the annual business meeting and oversee elections of officers.
  • Oversee leadership communication throughout the year.  
  • Manage special requests of the interest section membership and TESOL with the help of the Chair-elect.
  • Keep the Chair-Elect informed of all interest section activities throughout the term of office, in preparation for next year's leadership.
  • Submit the interest section annual report to the TESOL.

Chair-Elect

  • In the temporary absence of the Chair, preside at business meetings of the MWIS and its Steering Committee.
  • Organize the MWIS academic session at the annual TESOL convention.
  • Assist the Chair in planning TESOL Convention activities.
  • Assume the duties of the Chair should the Chair be unable to serve the remainder of the term.
  • Assist and advise the Chair in their duties. Work closely with the Chair in preparation for the following year's responsibilities.
  • Attend all scheduled IS meetings.

Community Manager

Newsletter Editor

Plan, produce, and publish the interest section's newsletters. The newsletter serves as a platform to share best practices, research insights, program administration strategies, member achievements, and updates related to TESOL and MWIS activities. The interest section may publish 1-3 newsletters per year.

Chair-Elect

The PAIS Chair-Elect is an elected volunteer position within the Program Administration Interest Section (PAIS). The Chair-Elect supports the PAIS leadership team, assists with strategic planning, contributes to convention programming, and prepares to assume the Chair role at the end of the next TESOL International Convention. The position emphasizes collaboration, communication, and year-round active engagement in PAIS initiatives. This role requires consistent communication, collaboration, and active participation in meetings for various PAIS events, including the TESOL International Convention.

Newsletter Editor

The PAIS Newsletter Editor is a volunteer member of the PAIS Steering Committee responsible for planning, producing, and publishing the Interest Section's newsletter. The newsletter serves as a platform to share best practices, research insights, program administration strategies, member achievements, and updates related to TESOL and PAIS activities. The Editor ensures the newsletter reflects PAIS's goals and supports the professional growth of English-language program administrators.

Member-at-Large  

The PAIS Member-at-Large serves as an elected volunteer leader within TESOL's Program Administration Interest Section. The role supports the PAIS leadership team and contributes to the interest section's strategic direction, member engagement, and professional development activities. This position is ideal for professionals seeking leadership experience and advancing best practices in English language program administration.

Chair-Elect

The Chair-Elect position is a three-year term, with one year as Chair-Elect, one as Chair, and one as outgoing Chair.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the leadership team and the steering committee to plan and execute RVIS goals.
  • Planning academic or intersection sessions at TESOL Convention
  • Communicating with TESOL leadership, e.g., competing reports and attending meetings.

Community Manager

Manages the RVIS Community on myTESOL.

Virtual Events Manager

This position is a one-year term. Organize two webinars with TESOL, featuring top scholars in reading and vocabulary. Requires 2-3 hours during the webinar months; you can choose the hosting date. Requires some knowledge of Zoom. This leadership position offers the opportunity to network and meet scholars. We already have one speaker ready to go! 

Graduate Student Volunteer

This position is for a one-year term. Looking to get involved in TESOL? Contribute to areas that interest you while connecting with peers and professionals from around the world. Requires about one hour a month.

Newsletter Co-Editor

This position is for a one-year term. Create two newsletters annually with a co-editor. Requires a few hours in February-March and September-October.

Chair-Elect

The Chair-Elect supports the Chair in carrying out their duties and takes on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chair. This role includes assisting with strategic planning, overseeing SLWIS activities, and participating in key decision-making. In the temporary absence of the Chair, the Chair-Elect presides over Steering Committee meetings. This leadership position provides valuable preparation for the Chair role in the next term.

Co-Chair (two positions available)

  • The Chair-Elect position is a two-year term, with one year as Chair and one as outgoing Chair.
  • Coordinates membership for all IS activities.
  • Coordinates all Intersection Session(s) for the forthcoming TESOL Convention.
  • Coordinates with TESOL Central Office Staff and provides required documentation and reports, as needed.

Co-Chair-Elect (two positions available)

  • This position is a three-year term, with one year as Chair-Elect, one as Chair, and one as outgoing Chair.
  • Coordinate the academic session for the forthcoming TESOL Convention.
  • Coordinate the intersection session for the forthcoming TESOL Convention.  
  • Submit updates and annual reports.  
  • Other agreed-upon duties via the Co-Chair.

Community Manager

Advocacy Domain Leader - Intersections of Identity & Language Teaching

  • Volunteer service with the concurrence of the Steering Committee.
  • Develop webinars/workshops related to the advocacy strand, as well as coordination with Editors for the strand-related content in the newsletter. Engages the community in online discussion via the advocacy domain.

Advocacy Domain Leader - Professional Learning

  • Volunteer service with the concurrence of the Steering Committee.
  • Develop webinars/workshops related to the advocacy strand, as well as coordination with Editors for the strand-related content in the newsletter. Engages the community in online discussions via the advocacy domain.

Advocacy Domain Leader - EL Advocacy

  • Volunteer service with the concurrence of the Steering Committee.
  • Develop webinars/workshops related to the advocacy strand, as well as coordination with Editors for the strand-related content in the newsletter. Engages the community in online discussions within the advocacy domain.

Chair

  • Oversee the SPLIS leadership and activities.
  • Oversee the SPLIS TESOL Convention sessions.
  • Plan the interest section activities during TESOL Convention.
  • Conduct the annual business meeting and oversee elections of officers.
  • Oversee leadership communication throughout the year.  
  • Manage special requests of the interest section membership and TESOL with the help of the Chair-elect.
  • Keep the Chair-Elect informed of all interest section activities throughout the term of office, in preparation for next year's leadership.
  • Submit the interest section annual report to the TESOL.

Chair-Elect

  • In the temporary absence of the Chair, preside at business meetings of the SPLIS and its Steering Committee.
  • Organize the SPLIS academic session at the annual TESOL convention.
  • Assist the Chair in planning TESOL Convention activities.
  • Assume the duties of the Chair should the Chair be unable to serve the remainder of the term.
  • Assist and advise the Chair in their duties. Work closely with the Chair in preparation for the following year's responsibilities.
  • Attend all scheduled IS meetings.

Chair-Elect

This position is a 3-year commitment. In 2026-2027, this person will serve as Chair-Elect; in 2027-2028, as Chair; and in 2028-2029, as Outgoing Chair. The Chair, Chair-Elect, and Outgoing Chair form the core leadership of the IS and serve on the leadership board alongside the other elected positions.

The Chair-Elect is primarily responsible for affiliate outreach and shadows the Chair. Attendance at the annual TESOL Convention is strongly encouraged but not required. As Chair, this person will be responsible for coordinating SSDIS operations at large, co-organizing two IS intersection sessions to be held at the TESOL Convention in 2028, contributing a "Letter from the Chair" to each SSDIS newsletter, and maintaining communications with the TESOL Board Liaison.

Event Coordinator

The Event Coordinator is a 2-year commitment, serving from 2026 to 2028. During the two-year service period, the Event Coordinator will recruit presenters for at least two webinars each consecutive year, for IS and non-IS members. The Event Coordinator will also be responsible for organizing a networking event for IS and non-IS members during the TESOL Convention and, when possible, arranging meetups at regional and international TESOL Conferences.

Community and Social Media Manager

This position is a 2-year term, serving from 2026 to 2028. During the two-year service period, this person will regularly update SSDIS's social media pages, including weekly posts in SSDIS's myTESOL forum, with information on supporting students with disabilities, and will promote the IS and its events. In addition, the Community and Social Media Manager will continue to build the IS's online presence.

Members-at-Large

Members at Large serve on the IS leadership board and assist with social media, online events, and newsletter articles as needed. This position is a 1 to 3-year commitment, with multiple positions available, and is a great way to learn more about TESOL and IS leadership!

Newsletter Co-Editor

The Newsletter Co-Editors jointly publish the IS newsletter, Difference and Disability Matters, at least twice per year. They are responsible, with the support of IS leadership, for sourcing articles and for editing and submitting the newsletter via TESOL.

Chair-Elect-Elect 

  • Organizes, in cooperation with the Chair and the Chair-Elect, proposals for intersection panels in which TEIS may be a primary or secondary partner.
  • Serves as a member of the Steering Committee.
  • Takes notes at the annual Business Meeting and assists the Chair-Elect in preparing the minutes.
  • In the temporary absence of the Chair or Chair-Elect at the annual Business Meeting, assumes the responsibilities for preparing the minutes of the meeting;
  • Solicits topics, articles, column editors, and other contributions and contributors for various activities (i.e., newsletter, blog, social media, webinars), and
  • Assists with social media networking activities and other duties assigned by the Chair and/or Steering Committee.

Community Manager 

  • Manages the TEIS Community on myTESOL.
  • Post at least once a week on the community's home page.
  • Post at least twice a month on the community discussion page.
  • Monitor the community and promptly respond to members' questions/posts.
  • Post the community's purpose and mission quarterly to remind members of the focus and orient new members.
  • Work with community members and, if necessary, TESOL staff to resolve any personal conflicts that may arise.
  • Post important community updates to the general Home page in myTESOL.
  • Create community events.
  • Upload resources to the community's library.
  • Direct community users to contact TESOL for assistance with myTESOL.
  • Maintains membership lists and tracks membership annually for reporting at the annual convention TEIS business meeting.
  • Conducts yearly membership drive.
  • Assists Newsletter/Blog Editor with coordinating activities across the different social media venues.
  • Attend TESOL Convention training sessions, as necessary.
  • Assists with social media networking activities and other duties assigned by the Chair and/or Steering Committee.

Convention Program Strand Coordinators

Expand your professional network, strengthen your leadership skills, and help shape a dynamic convention program by applying to serve as a Convention Program Strand Coordinator (SC) for the TESOL Virtual Convention and the TESOL 2027 International Convention & Expo, taking place in Houston, Texas, USA, 15–18 March 2027.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated expertise in the content area of their selected strand, prior experience as a reviewer for the TESOL Convention (or a comparable event), and/or a past or current leadership role within a TESOL Interest Section or a similar special-interest group, including for TESOL affiliates.

Strand Coordinators

  • Recruit and vet qualified reviewers for their strand.
  • Provide basic, strand-specific training and guidance to reviewers.
  • Ensure the quality and clarity of reviewer comments for proposal submitters.
  • Collaborate with TESOL Events staff and the Conferences Professional Council to finalize the convention program.
  • Attend and provide feedback on the quality of sessions at the annual convention.

  • Ability to stay organized and on track and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

The time commitment is roughly 3-4 hours a week, between May-August 2026. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Participate in 2 online trainings: one in May and the other in July.
  • Be active on strand community.
  • Respond to emails/messages.
  • Members serve a one-year term, renewable once.
