Proposed Rule on U.S. Federal Student Loan Program
TESOL Comments on U.S. Proposed Rule Impacting Teacher Education
TESOL International Association has provided comments to the U.S. Department of Education's proposed changes (see Federal Register notice here) to the federal student loan program impacting loan limits for those seeking educational degrees.
The Department’s proposed changes risk exacerbating national shortages of teachers prepared to serve multilingual learners of English by limiting access to educator-preparation programs, especially for part-time candidates.
TESOL encourages individuals and organizations to read the proposed rules and to provide comments to the Department on the impact to current and future educators. More information on the student loan context is provided in this resource from AACTE. Comments are due 2 March 2026.
