TESOL Advocates Help Secure Continued Federal Education Funding for FY 2026

by TESOL International Association |

Thank you to the thousands of TESOL advocates who visited and contacted their members of Congress these past several months, urging for the federal funding of education in support of the English language teaching (ELT) field, multilingual learners of English, and the communities we serve.

Congress passed its full-year 2026 appropriations this week, retaining funding for key provisions impacting the ELT field. While we faced the threat of steep cuts and elimination, Congress chose to continue funding for the following for fiscal year 2026:

Public Education (Elementary and Secondary Education Act):

  • Title I State Grants: $18.4 billion
  • Title II-A Supporting Effective Instruction: $2.19 billion
  • Title III English Language Acquisition: $890 million

Adult Education (Adult Education and Family Literacy Act): $729.2 million

Teacher Quality Partnership (Higher Education Act): $70 million

Advocacy continues as we begin the budget cycle for fiscal year 2027. Sign up today for advocacy alerts in TESOL's Advocacy Action Center to receive updates and respond to calls for action so that we may continue making a difference together.
