Serve as a Convention Program Strand Coordinator

The Conferences Professional Council (CPC) is currently seeking 2 strand coordinators (SCs) and 17 assistant strand coordinators (ASCs) to work on the upcoming convention programs. Generally, SCs serve for one convention cycle. ASCs, working closely with SCs, are selected to serve one to two years and will cycle up to become SCs themselves. To be eligible, you must be a member of TESOL International Association in good standing.

About the Coordinators

Strand Coordinators (SCs) and Assistant Strand Coordinators (ASCs) work in close collaboration and cooperation with the TESOL Strategic Events staff, the Conferences Professional Council, and TESOL Interest Section Chairs. They play an instrumental role in generating a vibrant Convention program, responding to changing trends in the field. As a Strand Coordinator, you will have the unique opportunity to make active contributions to the generation of TESOL’s Annual Convention.

In preparation for the upcoming TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo, the strand team (comprised of an SC and two or more ASCs) will:
  • assist with recruiting and vetting qualified reviewers to review proposals in their respective areas of interest.
  • provide specialized strand-related training to reviewers about proposal expectations and ways of offering constructive feedback.
  • review comments made to proposal submitters, ensuring that feedback is professional and aligns with numerical ratings.
  • designate reviewed proposals as accept, reject or alternate based on numerical ratings, comments from reviewers, session allotments, and number of proposals received.
Terms of Service
Both Strand Coordinators and Assistant Strand Coordinators shall be determined through an application process by the Conferences Professional Council. Strand team members shall serve for 1-2 years as an ASC, and 1 year as SC. Strand team members may re-apply, if desired. This system of working as teams and becoming the leader after one or more years fosters collaboration and builds continuity in the strand leadership and administration. For both positions, the application should solicit information regarding professional experience and expertise in the relevant area of interest, leadership experience and involvement in relevant tasks and projects, ability to work cooperatively with various teams, and availability throughout the entire process.
