Call for Convention Proposals

The annual TESOL convention offers English language teaching professionals and scholars from around the globe the premier opportunity for professional development. Educators and scholars from more than 100 countries exchange ideas and practices, explore a wide range of topics and current trends, expand their professional networks, engage in mentoring on research and other projects, review the latest professional publications and resources, and learn about advocacy efforts in their community and around the world.

The convention will feature presentations in Long Beach, California, USA, 18-21 March 2025. Join the international TESOL community for TESOL 2025, and experience what makes this event unique.  

Engage in dialogue with present and future practitioners, administrators, researchers, and advocacy leaders about language education and policy as you enrich your knowledge, networks, and professional experience.

If you are an English language teaching professional or scholar or in a related field or content area, you are invited to submit a proposal for TESOL 2025!

You can submit your proposal now at the online proposal submission site. Deadline to submit proposals is Monday, 3 June 2024, at 5 p.m. U.S. Eastern Daylight Time. To find the deadline in your time zone, please use the simple converter.

The TESOL 2025 virtual convention & expo will be at the end of 2025. A call for proposals will go out in June 2025. Be on the lookout for more information at that time.

Please read the following information carefully. All proposals must be submitted via the online proposal submission system.

New this year! Lead Presenter Role and Maximum Number of Accepted Presentation as Lead Presenter, Presenter and Panelist

There is no limit on how many proposals you submit but if the proposals are accepted, individual cannot appear in TESOL convention program as:

  • lead presenter in more than 2 sessions, and/or
  • presenter/panelist in more than 3 sessions.

General Submission Guidelines

Important Dates

  • Monday, 3 June 2024, 5 p.m. (U.S. Eastern Daylight Time) - Proposal submission deadline (Convert to your local time.)
  • Friday, 30 August 2024 - Initial accept/decline/alternate decisions emailed
  • Thursday, 31 October 2024 - Date and time for all accepted presentations emailed
  • Friday, 15 November 2024 - Alternates notified

General Guidelines

The TESOL community includes teachers, researchers, administrators, materials developers, and other professionals working in all contexts around the world, as well as in related disciplines. Our convention presentations echo this broad diversity of professional interests. Presentations are grouped into thematic content strands and identified by target audience, context, and setting. As you consider presentation ideas, you may find it helpful to refer to past accepted presentations and successful proposals.

Proposal Requirements

  • Proposals must be submitted through the abstract management system by 5 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on 3 June 2024. Proposals may not be edited after the submission deadline.
  • To allow for blind review, the proposal title, abstract, and description may not include information that identifies the presenter(s), including names and affiliated institutions.
  • For proposals with multiple presenters, all presenters must agree to participate prior to the submission of a proposal.
  • Proposals that promote commercial interests will be disqualified.
  • A presenter may submit multiple proposals, but each proposal must be submitted individually and represent a separate presentation. A single or substantially similar proposal may not be submitted to multiple strands.

Grounds for Disqualification

A proposal will be disqualified if:

  • it is submitted after the deadline;
  • it is not submitted electronically through the abstract management system;
  • it is incomplete or completed without following the guidelines in the call for proposals;
  • it includes the presenter(s) or organizer(s) name(s) or institution(s) in the title, abstract, or description;
  • it contains plagiarized content;
  • it or a similar proposal is submitted to multiple strands; or
  • it promotes a commercial interest.

TESOL invites proposals for PCIs that deal with classroom practices and applications of research in language learning and teaching. Proposals are welcomed from teachers, teacher educators, researchers, program administrators, materials and curriculum developers, and other professionals in communications, education, linguistics, foreign languages, and other related fields who have extensive experience in providing in-service programs and consulting for educational organizations. All proposals are refereed by TESOL’s Conferences Professional Council (CPC).
