- Must be a current TESOL International Association member in good standing
- Must demonstrate active engagement in justice and equity work within language education
- Must have submitted a proposal to present at the current year's TESOL International Convention through:
- The general Call for Proposals or
- through a TESOL Community of Practice
- Must be able to attend the annual convention to accept the award
Purpose
To recognize language education professionals who exemplify excellence in promoting justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access in English language teaching, learning, and leadership. This award honors professionals who, like Mary Romney-Schaab, actively work to advance equitable practices, mentor underrepresented colleagues, and foster inclusive environments in language education.

- Excellence Award
- Award funds of $2,500 USD
- If requested, mentorship from Mary Romney Schaab Committee members who are active in TESOL
Expected Outcomes & Deliverables
Presentation at the TESOL Convention, BELPAF symposium, or host a TESOL-supported webinar regarding work related to justice and equity in language education.
- Personal Statement (1200-words maximum): Describe your commitment to justice and equity in language education, including specific examples of your work and impact
- Convention Presentation Abstract: Copy of submitted proposal for the current year's convention
- Professional Portfolio: Include 2-3 examples of work demonstrating justice and equity advocacy (publications, images, program materials, flyers, and/or work samples, etc.)
- Letters of Support (2 required): From colleagues who can speak to your justice and equity work
- Current CV/Resume: 4-page maximum
